GRAACC – Support Group for Adolescents and Children with Cancer – is a non-profit institution, created to guarantee children and adolescents with cancer, within the most advanced scientific standard, the right to achieve all chances of cure with quality of life. The GRAACC hospital carries out around 3,000 treatments a year, including chemotherapy sessions, consultations, outpatient procedures, surgeries, bone marrow transplants and others. As well as diagnosing and treating childhood cancer, GRAACC is active in the development of teaching and research.

GRAACC was born in 1991, thanks to the initiative of Dr. Sérgio Petrilli, head of the Oncology sector of the Pediatrics Department at Escola Paulista de Medicina, volunteer engineer Jacinto Antonio Guidolin and Mrs. Petrilli. Léa Della Casa Mingione, a volunteer at the Cancer Hospital.

The first step was to move the Pediatric Oncology Department from Hospital São Paulo to a house, which became known as the “little house”. The little patients were cared for there, under the concept of a day hospital, where they received medical care and assistance and returned home.

Based on the university/company/community partnership, GRAACC has aroused the trust and interest of companies and institutions with a broad social vision in participating in the construction of the Pediatric Oncology Institute – IOP/GRAACC/UNIFESP, the GRAACC hospital.

In May 1998, this dream came true. A modern hospital with nine floors and two basements is built on 4,200 m², specializing in the care of children and adolescents with cancer.

The hospital is managed and administered by GRAACC and medical care, teaching and research are carried out under an agreement with the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP/EPM). GRAACC is audited annually by ERNST & YOUNG. Since 2008, GRAACC ‘s volunteer work has been ISO 9001 certified.

The Abrinq Foundation pelos Direitos da Criança e do Adolescente is a private, non-profit foundation set up on February 13, 1990 – the year the Statute of the Child and Adolescent was enacted – with the aim of mobilizing society on issues related to the rights of children and adolescents, both through actions, programs and projects, and by encouraging the strengthening of public policies to guarantee children and adolescents.

It is supported by individuals, companies and national and international organizations fighting for the cause of children and adolescents. Directly or indirectly, more than five million children have already benefited from the Foundation’s work, which is based on actions aimed at:

-Offering children and adolescents access to education, health, culture, leisure, vocational training and digital inclusion.

-Protecting children and adolescents whose rights have been violated or who are at risk, by combating child labor and protecting children and adolescents from different forms of violence.

-Sensitize and raise awareness among society, the public sector, civil society organizations and companies to take a stand and participate in the issues of childhood and adolescence in our country.

Participation in the Foundation’s work includes volunteering, donations, investments, technical and professional support. In addition, companies can apply to receive the Child-Friendly Company seal and city halls can align themselves with the objectives of the Child-Friendly Mayor program.
